How can I get a job at Environment Canterbury?

All of our positions are advertised on this website and should be applied for online. You should regularly monitor our vacancies or sign up for 'job alerts' when registering on the 'Current Vacancies' page. Please do not email your CV; we require a completed application online as the details you complete provide us with valuable information for our recruitment process.


Do you offer summer student roles?

Yes! The number of positions varies every year depending on the needs of the organisation. We advertise all summer student positions on this site from mid-August to early September. All applications should be made online via this website. All applicants should be available to work from mid-November through to mid-end February .


Do you offer internships or work experience?

We do not currently offer internships. For any unpaid work experience please visit the Environment Canterbury website and search for "work experience". You can then look at the work experience booklet and contact the department that you wish to gain experience in.


Can't see a vacancy you want to apply for?

The positions listed under the 'Current Vacancies' pages are the only vacancies that we are actively recruiting for at present. Please check the page again at a later date.


How can I be sure my online application has been received?

An email will be sent confirming your application has been received. The email also outlines the recruitment process.


How can I be sure my CV and covering letter are attached to my online application?

Once you have submitted your online application you can go back into My Application and view your status.


How will I be contacted if an interview is required?

In most instances you will be notified by phone, using the phone contact numbers on your application. If we are unable to reach you through this method then an email will be sent.


How long does the application process take?

This can depend on the number of applications received for the role. For most roles allow 2 – 6 weeks from the closing date.


Will I be informed of the outcome of my application?

All candidates are notified either by email or by phone of the outcome of their application.


Do I have to apply online?

Yes, we require all applications to be submitted online.


Do you accept applications from outside New Zealand?

Yes we do. Environment Canterbury is an accredited employer with Immigration NZ which means we can provide information to assist with visa applications if the role meets the immigration criteria.
